Issue Position: Small Business Development in New York

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

Each year, small businesses are crushed by the heavy tax burden that New York State puts on them. While President Obama, and most certainly Michelle Schimel, may consider those individuals and small businesses that make $250,000 to be rich and wealthy, most small businesses are not, but rather struggle to stay afloat in this economy by just making $250,000. I would work with Assembly leaders to reduce the Corporate Franchise Tax rate for small businesses with net income less than $200,000 from 6.5% to 5.85%, and for small businesses with net income between $200,000 and $400,000 from 7.1% to 6.85%. I would also work to establish a College to Work Program that allows a tax credit for companies that help their employees with college tuition. I would also work to eliminat excessive filing requirements, allowing these small businesses to file a singular tax document that covers all of their state obligations.

I obviously want to address many more issues, but due to constraints, I would rather address individual concerns on a by-issue basis. If you have a question about where I stand on an issue, please e-mail me and I will post my response on this website (your information will be redacted to protect your privacy).
